Lower Body Balance Protocols

StabiFlex

Beginner Protocol:

Configure the StabiFlex with the forefoot bars on the big toe side and middle as shown. When switching feet, you must move the outside forefoot bar to the opposite side, so the support bars are positioned under the big toe.

Press strongly through the big toe while shifting your weight to the unsupported side of the forefoot until the board drops down and touches the ground, then return to the starting position.

Complete 30-50 reps.

Notes: Focus your attention on the formation of the arch of your foot.  Aim to press through the ground with your big toe for the entire set.

Intermediate Protocol:

Configure the StabiFlex with the level 1 bars in the center for the forefoot and both the outsides for the heel as shown.

Start by mobilizing the foot:

Rotate the board left until it hits the floor, then right until it hits the floor.  Try to do this balancing only on one foot, if assistance is needed, use the big toe of the opposite leg.

Perform 10 reps.

Balance for 2 minutes each foot then rest 1 minute. If assistance is needed at any time during the 2 minute set, use the big toe of the opposite foot to regain balance.

Complete 2-3 sets.

This protocol can also be performed with the advanced forefoot bar for added difficulty.

Advanced Protocol:

Configure the StabiFlex with the level 2 bars in the center for the forefoot and the heel as shown.

Balance for 2 minutes each foot then rest 1 minute. If assistance is needed at any time during the 2 minute set, use the big toe of the opposite foot to regain balance.

Complete 2-3 sets.

Notes:

Focus on keeping the forefoot and the heel connected by flexing the muscles of the foot.  If the heel moves in a direction without the forefoot, or vice versa, more attention must be placed on keeping them locked together.
